A personal project that reflects my design philosophy and love of colour, pattern and timeless interiors. Over the years this heritage home has evolved room by room, demonstrating how thoughtful design can create spaces that are both highly individual and practical for everyday living.

De Lorenzo Home Bathroom - Award Winner

As part of the restoration of our heritage-listed home, the bathroom was carefully renovated to honour its original character while providing the comfort expected of modern living. Every design decision was made to preserve the integrity of the home, with colours and materials inspired by the original leadlight windows.

The original cast-iron bath was restored and resurfaced before being painted to match the beautiful leadlight glass. That distinctive colour Resene Sassy became the inspiration for the ceiling, the wall colours and cornice. These complemented the original patterned floor tiles and the tones found in the original windows, creating a harmonious palette throughout the room.

The bespoke pendant light I designed specifically for the space and handcrafted using my mothers and my treasured crystal glasses, creating a unique feature that sparkles beautifully and adds a personal connection to the home's history. Traditional fittings, generous natural light and a carefully planned layout complete a bathroom that feels authentic, elegant and full of character.

The project received a Resene Colour Award in 2019, recognising the thoughtful use of colour to celebrate the home's heritage while creating a warm and distinctive contemporary interior.

Wellington Bay House – Kitchen

The kitchen was designed to become the heart of this family home, combining timeless aesthetics with exceptional functionality. Careful planning created a layout that supports both everyday living and entertaining, with generous preparation areas, bespoke storage and clear circulation throughout the space.

Classic white cabinetry provides a light and enduring backdrop, while the vibrant green T @ G panelling introduces colour and individuality without overwhelming the design. Every detail, from the proportions of the cabinetry to the placement of appliances and lighting, including vintage lights, was carefully considered to create a kitchen that is both elegant and practical.

The result is a welcoming space that reflects the character of the home while meeting the demands of modern family life. Designed to stand the test of time, the kitchen continues to demonstrate how thoughtful planning and quality materials create interiors that remain both beautiful and highly functional for years to come.

De Lorenzo Home - Kitchen and Dining

I designed this kitchen and dining area to become the true heart of our home. By removing the wall between the original kitchen and dining room, I created a light-filled, connected space that works beautifully for both everyday living and entertaining, while respecting the character of the house.

My aim was to combine timeless design with modern functionality. Bespoke cabinetry provides generous storage and practical workspaces, while quality appliances and carefully planned joinery make the kitchen efficient and enjoyable to use. Original features, including the coal range, timber flooring and built-in cabinetry, were retained and integrated into the new design to ensure the renovation felt as though it had always belonged.

Colour has always been an important part of my design philosophy, and this home reflects that belief. The green ceiling and matching glass splashback add personality without overwhelming the space, while statement lighting, patterned flooring and carefully selected furnishings create a home that feels warm, welcoming and uniquely individual.

This project demonstrates my belief that great design is about far more than beautiful finishes. It's about creating spaces that are practical, personal and a pleasure to live in every day.

Wellington Bay House -Bathroom

I transformed an upstairs bedroom into a spacious family bathroom as part of a complete reconfiguration of the upper floor. The redesign also created a dressing room, study, spare bedroom.This resulted in a layout that made far better use of the available space and better suited the way the family wanted to live.

Rather than designing around standard bathroom cabinetry, I repurposed a mid-century sideboard as the vanity. The cabinet was carefully modified to accommodate the plumbing, and a granite benchtop was added to create a bespoke piece that combines generous storage with warmth, craftsmanship and character. Giving an existing piece of furniture a new purpose created a unique focal point and reinforced the timeless feel of the room.

The bathroom was designed to feel calm, welcoming and luxurious. A steam shower with integrated seating provides a spa-like experience, while the brass and tin freestanding bath introduces texture and individuality. Traditional wall paneling, handcrafted tiles and classic floor finishes balance contemporary comfort with enduring style, creating a space that feels both elegant and practical. The original concept drawings show how these ideas were developed and refined before construction began.

The result is a bathroom that demonstrates my belief that thoughtful planning, quality craftsmanship and creative reuse can produce interiors that are not only beautiful but also deeply personal and built to last.

Project Introduction

This whole-house renovation transformed a traditional home into a contemporary family residence that balances light and dark tones, rich textures and timeless materials. Designed for cooking, entertaining and family life, this bespoke kitchen combines generous storage with a highly functional layout. Natural stone, classic cabinetry and carefully planned work zones create a timeless space that feels both elegant and effortless to use.

Dining Room

The dining room was designed as a sophisticated entertaining space that connects seamlessly with the kitchen through a glazed sliding door. Statement wallpaper, custom lighting and warm timber finishes add character while maintaining a strong connection with the rest of the home.

Living Room

The living room centres around a dramatic tiled fireplace that anchors the space. Layered textures, rich colour and custom furnishings create a comfortable room that feels equally suited to quiet evenings or entertaining family and friends.

Main Bedroom

The bedroom provides a calm retreat with soft textures, subtle pattern and bespoke detailing. Every element was selected to create a restful space while maintaining continuity with the overall design of the home.

Ensuite Bathroom

The ensuite combines clean contemporary lines with practical planning to create a spacious and relaxing retreat. Large-format tiles, generous storage and quality fittings deliver a bathroom that is both luxurious and highly functional.

Design Process

Every successful renovation begins with careful planning. Detailed drawings, bespoke joinery design and thoughtful space planning ensured each room worked individually while contributing to a cohesive home that reflects the way the family lives.

 A former bedroom was completely reimagined to create a luxurious master suite, incorporating a spacious ensuite bathroom and bespoke walk-in wardrobe. The new layout was carefully planned to maximise space, storage and everyday functionality while respecting the character of the heritage home.

The ensuite combines timeless black-and-white finishes with dramatic wallpaper, traditional fittings and modern comforts, while the custom-designed walk-in wardrobe provides tailored storage for clothing, shoes and accessories. Every element was designed to create a practical, elegant retreat that enhances daily living.

Mt Cook  Kitchen

I designed this kitchen to create a calm, functional space that complements the character of the home while meeting the practical needs of everyday family life.

Careful planning was the key to the project. Bespoke cabinetry incorporates a generous pantry, appliance storage, deep drawers and dedicated spaces for everything from platters to spices, creating a kitchen that is both highly organised and effortless to use. Every detail was tailored to the way the family lives.

Quartzite benchtops, handcrafted wall tiles, painted cabinetry and timber flooring create a timeless palette that sits comfortably within the home's original character. The adjoining living spaces were also redesigned with complementary joinery, creating a seamless connection throughout the home.

The result is a light-filled kitchen that balances timeless design, practical storage and everyday functionality.
